Your Sustainable Image-Centric Enterprise System

Overview

PCI Geomatics is committed to the development of GeoCapacity Information Systems – complete geospatial solutions combining users, data and technology. Built on PCI’s open and proven Geomatica® platform, componentized geospatial tasks can be chained together along with interface, delivery and job-control processes. Leveraging existing expertise, a GeoCapacity Information System can exploit all of your applications’ geospatial data, including satellite, GIS, photogrammetry, vector, tabular and cadastre types.

Beyond the task of integrating or fusing these multiple data types, a GeoCapacity Information System will also automate many image or data processing tasks, improving interoperability, data management and cost of ownership. A standards-based web-services delivery model is just one option to spatially enable your existing applications or create new product lines. PCI GeoCapacity – an Intelligent Imagery Solution.

GeoCapacity Overview
GCIS whitepaper

PCI Geomatics, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC) program, has developed a GCIS Mapping Center to provide automated mapping functionality nationwide. The GeoCapacity Information System (GCIS) Mapping Center provides detailed, accurate, nationally standardized mapping functionality, products and delivery systems.

Through the integration of five subsystems, the GCIS Mapping Center has clear advantages over traditional mapping, data management and access mechanisms.

  • Image Correction System (ICS) - automates the processing and preparation of remote sensing imagery; instantly achieve time/cost savings for orthorectification, pansharpening, and other image processing tasks.
  • Map Generation System (MGS) - provides flexible automated map generation based on user requirements and national mapping standards.
  • Feature Extraction System ( FES ) - an interactive environment for efficient extraction and updating topographic features from satellite imagery.
  • Web Services System (WSS) - based on Open GeoSpatial Consortium (OGC) standards which enables the exchange of spatial data from anywhere, to anyone.
  • Job Control System (JCS) - provides the tools to define, execute, and monitor jobs from the above four systems automatically.

The Mapping Center offers an automated, efficient, flexible and reliable mapping system.

TPC Program

The Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC) Program has provided PCI Geomatics with a $5.6M Federal investment for the development of GeoCapacity System from concept to pre-production readiness. The project began in April of 2003 and the first TPC Prototype, a Mapping GeoCapacity System in now nearing completion. The prototype will deliver topographic, satellite image and combined maps for anywhere in Canada.

As part of the Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC) program PCI Geomatics is committed to creating and implementing two GeoCapacity Information System’s (GCIS) in addition to the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Mapping Center:

An Environmental Monitoring GCIS in partnership with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is being implemented to provide automatic updating of land cover types across the country every five years using satellite imagery.

Additionally, an Emergency Response and Homeland Security GCIS in partnership with Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada (PSEPC) are being created to provide identification and mapping of critical infrastructure and security-vulnerable areas.

Interoperability

GeoCapacity solutions demonstrate the value of investing in Open Standards based  interoperability  with a focus on imagery, for the Geospatial web.

Automation

A GeoCapacity Information System provides automation  technology to create  production  efficiencies leading to cost avoidance.

Capacity building

A GeoCapacity Information System demonstrates a design intended to integrate easily with other best-of-breed technologies to ensure long term sustainability. As the technology changes, so does a GCIS!
