Why Use Geomatica with ALOS data?

Geomatica ALOS support leads the industry for the following workflows:

About ALOS

The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) is designed to provide valuable information for mapping, precise regional land coverage observation, disaster monitoring, and resource surveying. ALOS contains three sensors:

  PALSAR
(Phased Array type L-band
Synthetic Aperture Radar)
PRISM
(Panchromatic Remote Sensing
Instrument for Stereo
Mapping)
AVNIR-2
(Advanced
Visible and Near Infrared
Radiometer type 2)

  PALSAR PRISM
AVNIR-2

Benefits

PALSAR is an active L-Band microwave sensor, with a swath three to five times wider than conventional SAR images. PALSAR is not affected by weather conditions and operable both daytime and nighttime. It is capable of multiple polarizations meaning some features can be seen better than in optical images.

Priced at ~$216 per scene, PRISMs 2.5m resolution and 70km swath width make it an attractive option for Stereo DEM Extraction

AVNIR-2 is a visible and near-infrared radiometer for observing land and coastal areas. AVNIR has a spatial resolution of 10m and can be used to PANSHARPEN higher resolution PRISM data.

Applications

  • DEM creation
  • Biomass estimation
  • Forest fire Monitoring
  • Agriculture
  • Oil Spill Monitoring
  • Flood Monitoring
  • Soil Moisture
  • Ship Detection/ Identification
  • Map Creation
  • DEM for Map
  • City Planning
  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
  • Coastal Management
  • Illegal Disposal Control
  • Flood Monitoring
  • Sea Traffic Monitoring
  • Large scale Map Creation
  • Large scale City Planning
  • Agriculture (Crop Identification etc.)
  • Forest Management
  • Coastal Management
  • Gulf pollution Control
  • Vegetation Monitoring
  • Large Scale Flood Monitoring
