PCI Geomatics awarded contract to create accurate SPOT satellite images for the landmass of CanadaRichmond Hill, Ontario – August 21, 2006: PCI Geomatics® has been awarded a contract from Iunctus Geomatics to produce accurate satellite images covering all of Canada, south of 80° North latitude. The five-year contract, which involves both the delivery of software and production services, is part of Natural Resource Canada’s (NRCan)$2.4 million award to Iunctus Geomatics and TELUS Corporation for the creation of new, high-quality images of Canada from SPOT 4 and 5 satellite data. “We look forward to working with Iunctus Geomatics on this important project for the Canadian government”, stated Brad Schmidt, Vice President of Sales at PCI Geomatics. “With PCI’s new Geomatica X technology, accurate orthorectified images for SPOT 4 and SPOT 5 data will be created through an automated process”. PCI Geomatics, a world-leading developer of image-centric software and solutions for the geospatial industry, has considerable experience in developing products and solutions for the orthorectification of both satellite and aerial imagery. “Traditional methods for correcting SPOT images were simply too expensive and time-intensive to meet the needs of our client, the Government of Canada”, said Brett Michelson, Vice President of Business Development at Iunctus Geomatics. “The scalability of a PCI Geomatics automated orthorectification system will allow for the rapid and cost-effective production of accurate images with little user intervention”. Natural Resources Canada will distribute the new, high-resolution images of Canada through the GeoBase initiative, a Web portal that allows government and individual users to access high-quality geospatial information.
