African satellite centre chooses PCI Geomatics technology to process imagesRichmond Hill, Ontario – November 7, 2006: PCI Geomatics is pleased to announce that its software and solutions were selected by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Satellite Application Centre to automatically process satellite images. The centre has purchased Geomatica 10 and Geomatica X, PCI’s premiere software suites in remote sensing, for their inclusion in fully automated preprocessing chains for the radiometric and geometric correction of up to 100 satellite images per day. The CSIR Satellite Applications Centre is the regional ground receiving station for Southern Africa; it provides telemetry, tracking and command services, dissemination of low, medium and high resolution satellite data, and archives this earth observation data to be made available to the public. “Geomatica provides the best flexibility and scalability of algorithms for the development of a customized and open geo-processing system,” said Wolfgang Lück, Earth Observation Data Services Technical Manager at the CSIR Satellite Application Centre. “The CSIR has great confidence in PCI Geomatics and their renowned products for providing an outstanding service.” PCI Geomatics, a world-leading developer of image-centric software and solutions for the geospatial industry, has vast experience in developing products and solutions for the orthorectification of satellite imagery. “We are delighted that CSIR has chosen PCI Geomatics to help automate some of their internal process flows,” said Trevor Taylor, Director of Solutions Sales at PCI Geomatics. “Processing and delivering geospatial imagery – quickly, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards – is what we do best.” About CSIR Satellite Applications Centre The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)'s Satellite Application Centre (provides scientific and technical support to satellite operators. The centre also acts as a satellite imagery reception station for the South African and regional spatial community. Satellite imagery is captured, processed and archived, after which various applications (to address developmental issues such as land use management, fire monitoring and prediction, urban and rural planning and food security) are developed, based on user requirements. The centre, resident within the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and situated at Hartebeeshoek, also provides technical support for space policy formulation and implementation processes, both in South Africa and abroad.
