PCI Geomatics® Provides Key Technologies to
International Aid Organization GTZ

Richmond Hill, Ontario - May 13, 2004: PCI Geomatics, a leading supplier of geospatial image analysis solutions, announces that it will be providing GTZ with Geomatica software for geospatial processing of ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) data.

How GTZ will use Geomatica 9

Geomatica geospatial software is helping GTZ consultants develop a new geo-database for hydrologic and hydro-geologic resource assessment in Eritrea (Horn of Africa).

Many crucial hydrologic parameters essential for this assessment require Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, but suitable data do not exist for this region. When planning the project, GTZ recognized that processing ASTER data with 
Geomatica 9's photogrammetry technology (with rigorous satellite model support for ASTER) would provide accurate, affordable, and current DEMs. Geomatica 9's remote sensing and GIS technology also provided planners with the necessary land cover classification and decision support information using the high spectral resolution of the same ASTER data source.
