PCI Geomatics implements GeoTango’s SmartDigitizer feature extraction technology

Richmond Hill, Ontario – December 23, 2004: PCI Geomatics announces the integration of GeoTango’s SmartDigitizer technology for semi-automated feature extraction. This revolutionary technology quickly extracts feature lines and polygons from a wide variety of remotely sensed images.

Users can digitize vectors from a wide variety of image sources, including high- and low-resolution satellite imagery, aerial photos, optical images, hyperspectral images, and even RADAR data.

David Stanley, Vice President of Research and Development at PCI Geomatics, is excited about the technology. “Manual, heads-up digitizing is extremely labor intensive and time consuming,” he said. “For decades, automated extraction techniques have faced problems of technical complexity and the variety of uncontrollable input sources such as image resolution, scale, and sensor types. Now we can finally provide a fast, robust, and accurate tool for semi-automated digitizing.”

Smart Digitizer will be available in the 2005 release of Geomatica, PCI Geomatics’ flagship geospatial image processing software, and will be a key component of several GeoCapacity production systems.
