  • Greetings!

PCI Geomatics is eager to share with you all of our exciting news and information in this latest installment of Footsteps and Futures!

We've had a busy trade show schedule this summer. We met with many PCI users while exhibiting at GeoBrasil, in Sao Paolo. Our next stop was IGARSS in Barcelona, Spain, followed by Map Asia in Kuala Lumpur. Finally, in September we participated in RSPSoc in the UK and InterGeo in Leipzig, Germany. In addition, we held a very successful "Practical Radar Polarimetry Theory and Applications Workshop" at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada in August (in association with MDA Geospatial Services, CCRS and sponsored by the Canadian Space Agency).

We also recently hosted our "International Reseller Meeting" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There were 25 resellers in attendance, all of whom came to discuss our software and solutions, participate in detailed training sessions, and informative question and answer discussions. Thank you to our corporate sponsors - Infoterra, MDA Corporation and DAT/EM.

Learn more about PCI's worldwide resellers through our profiles section where we spotlight their latest happenings.

PCI Geomatics has been awarded a contract with GeoConnections to develop a Web Coverage Server and Image Correction Appliance for the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure. Click here to read more.

Join Us in Washington D.C. on October 17

Join PCI Geomatics in Washington D.C. on October 17 at the prestigious Tower Club where we are hosting an Applications Seminar and User Group Meeting with featured Keynote Speaker David Schell from the Open Geospatial Consortium and distinguished presenters from Great-Circle Technologies, Iunctus, Navsys, UltraSpectral, Woods Hole Research Center and more.

Our User Group Meeting will feature key customers explaining how they are using PCI technology, and we will also showcase the other exciting projects we have been involved with lately.

    Geomatica 10.1.1 is Here!

Now supported in Geomatica 10.1.1 is Kompsat-2, the high-resolution satellite belonging to the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI). KOMPSAT-2 acquires imagery in black and white (Pan) at a resolution of 1 m, and in colour (MS) across 4 bands in the visible (red, green, blue) and near-infrared at a resolution of 4 m.

Support for ALOS data products has also been extended to include ERSDAC PALSAR level 1.5 long version, level 4.1 and level 4.2 data.

Other satellites fully supported in this release include:

    • CBERS -China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite
    • DMC - Disaster Monitoring Constellation
    • EROS-B - Earth Resources Observation Systems
In addition, PCI Geomatics' Generic Database (GDB) Technology has been extended, allowing for the exporting of raster and vector layers into KML format with direct loading of layers into Google Earth (version 4.0 or greater). The GDB Technology also now supports LASF version 1.0 for both reading and writing.

A new RMOVERLAP algorithm has been added to the Modeler and EASI environments which simplify cutlines generated by OrthoEngine. By removing the overlap between cutline polygons, cutlines are easier to edit and are more intuitive.

The GRNEHN algorithm is now included in the pan sharpening workflow, which produces a more natural dataset and is a better match with actual photos, as it improves the green band in the output image.

    Applications Website and Contest Winners

We have included an Applications portion to our website, highlighting the different industries in which our software and solutions are beneficial. Take a moment to explore the different areas of business where PCI Geomatics fits. click here to read more.

This summer, we ran a contest whereby people from around the globe told us how PCI Geomatics software is helping them in their specific application areas. We received numerous submissions on how PCI software is helping to contribute to the success of your projects.

    Congratulations to our winners:

    1. Alessandra Rodrigues Gomes - University of Sao Paulo State. Environmental monitoring of landslide scars in a region of Brazil.
    2. Craig Alleva - Ryerson University. Using satellite remote sensing to detect vehicles in freeway queues.
    3. Guillermo Villon Reyes - Ministerio del interior, Peru. Cultivations inventory and evaluation of coca in the jungles of Peru.
Thank you to all who participated. Please continue to tell us how you are using PCI Geomatics software by emailing Alysia Vetter.

    GeoInt 2007: Oct 21 - 24, San Antonio, Texas

Visit PCI Geomatics at booth #674 where we will be presenting the latest in automated processing including live demonstrations of: Automatic Ingest Mosaic Mapping System (AIMM), Web-based Geo- Referenced Image Manager (WebGRIM) and Geomatica Image Management System (GIMS).

PCI Geomatics is pleased to be an integral part of the GeoInt 2007 Interoperability Demo on Integration of Foreign and Domestic Intelligence. Presented in cooperation with geospatial contemporaries, PCI will be showcasing how imagery from UAVs will be orthorectified, mosaicked and delivered as background imagery, providing up-to-date information for collection of visual cues, target reconciliation.

    Join us: Wednesday, October 24th - 11:00 - 11:15am

    Tips & Tricks

Did you know that Geomatica 10.1 offers users the capability to compute histogram statistics of a region under a bitmap mask?

This feature allows the user to gather information about specific regions of interest, rather then the entire map!

To do this, the user must first create a bitmap layer representing the area of interest, and then apply the bitmap masks for the regions.

Once the bitmap mask has been created, the user can use this mask to generate histograms with statistics for regions under the mask using the Histogram with Statistics Window, and selecting bitmap mask from the Mask list box. When viewing from the Maps tree, bitmap layers for which masks have not been applied are also listed in the Mask list box. If the user selects one of these layers and then applies a mask to a region in the Focus viewer, the Histogram with Statistics window refreshes with the relevant histogram.
