  • Greetings!

Summertime is finally upon us in North America, bringing with it many exciting happenings at PCI Geomatics. We are currently enjoying a very active season in the tradeshow circuit, and you may have seen us at ASPRS in Reno, GITA and the Oracle Spatial Users Conference in Tampa, and Géoévénement in Paris. PCI has been globe-trotting this spring, demonstrating Geomatica 10 and various Geomatica X solutions, including the newly released Geomatica Image Management Systems (GIMS) – all of which to rave reviews.

We are also pleased to announce that PCI has been named to the prestigious Branham300 listing, where we were ranked as one of the top 250 IT companies in Canada.

Succeeding a busy spring, this summer will be an equally dynamic time for PCI Geomatics. Look for us at upcoming tradeshows, download our latest brochures (Geomatica 10 and Geomatica X), or join us for free webinar training – we look forward to keeping you informed our activities along the way!

    Oracle Spatial Users Conference

Following the GITA Annual Conference, PCI Geomatics attended the Oracle Spatial Users Conference on April 27. We were pleased to present “On Demand Mapping at the Innovation Acceleration Centre (IAC) within Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN),” by Cary Lichtman, Louis Burry, and Trevor Taylor. To obtain a copy of the presentation on the Oracle Spatial website, click here.

The presentation illustrates our commitment to building solutions that integrate cutting-edge technology to solve enterprise-wide problems. The fully automated Mapping Centre, a GeoCapacity Information System (GCIS) built on PCI Geomatics and Oracle technology, provides detailed, accurate, and standardized mapping products and delivery systems nation wide. Built on PCI’s open and proven Geomatica platform, a GCIS can exploit all of your geospatial data, including satellite, GIS, photogrammetry, vector, tabular and cadastre types.

Want to learn more? Read our whitepaper, “Using PCI Geomatics Software with Oracle 10g Spatial and GeoRaster”, and check out the Geomatica Image Management System (GIMS) – a robust enterprise-wide solution designed for the effective storage, processing, and access of geospatial data.

    GeoTec / GIAC

We hope to see you at the upcoming GeoTec event in Ottawa, Canada. With this show being in PCI’s backyard (near our Gatineau office), we were able to play an instrumental role in assisting, sponsoring and planning the conference.

For more information about the GeoTec Event 2006, visit www.geoplace.com.

We will be exhibiting with partners eSpatial and DAT/EM at Booth #408. Join us as Sylvain Lemieux, PCI Geomatics Director of GeoCapacity Solutions, presents, "On-Demand Mapping at the Innovation Acceleration Centre (IAC) within Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN)", on June 21. Following the GeoTec event is the annual GIAC Geomatics Leaders Forum, June 21-22, where PCI Geomatics President and CEO, Dr. Robert Moses will present “The Impact of OGC Standards on SDI Development Worldwide”.

    International Reseller Meeting

PCI Geomatics is pleased to be hosting our annual International Reseller Meeting in Ottawa, Canada from June 15-17. We look forward to meeting with our resellers from all over the world to discuss PCI software and solutions, provide detailed training sessions, and have informative discussions. But it won’t be all work and no play – we plan to celebrate PCI’s success with our valued resellers at an awards banquet, outdoor barbecue event, and fun ‘world cup’ soccer game.

    Cartosat Certification

CorporationPCI has received certification for Geomatica to be used for processing data from the Indian CARTOSAT-1 satellite, from the government-contracted ANTRIX Corporation. The CARTOSAT-1 satellite was launched on May 5, 2005 by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). With two panchromatic cameras delivering a spatial resolution of 2.5 metres, CARTOSAT-1 provides stereo data suitable for advanced, large-scale mapping applications.

    Tips and Tricks

When working on an automatic mosaic project, you may wish to mask out the water bodies, clouds and/or shadows in the images to improve color balancing. The masks can be drawn in Focus and should be saved to the same image file that contains the water bodies or artifacts they cover. In the Automatic Mosaicking dialog box, Color balance must be set to "Entire image" or "Overlap area" in order to enable access to the "Ignore pixels under bitmap mask" option. Any pixels under the bitmap mask will not be considered during the calculation of the color balancing histogram.

If the image file contains more than one bitmap mask, OrthoEngine will only consider the last bitmap segment saved in the file. Click here to see the Automosaic Panel.
