Geomatica 10 Highlights |
 |
Since the roll-out of Geomatica 10 in early January
the response from customers has been fantastic:
"The more I work with Geomatica, the
more
useful functions I find....it allows an incredible
flexibility to do just about anything!" - Pierre
Poisson
With the new features present in the latest
release, Geomatica 10 is sure to make your
geospatial processing faster and easier!
Some key modules new to this release include:
• Desktop
Production Engine and
Desktop Production Engine Plus-
Including both command-line and visual scripting and
modeling environments, this robust system allows for
the automation, customization and batch processing
of workflows,
saving your company time and money! Experience
the power of automation with this extremely powerful
module.
• Auto
Registration - Through
OrthoEngine's Auto Registration module, automatic
image-to-image registration is now possible allowing
for quick and easy ground control point collection.
Combined with OrthoEngine’s accurate satellite and
airphoto models this technology enables fast,
automated, rigorous orthorectification.
• Charting - This module allows
users to visualize and analyze quantitative data
quickly, allowing you to easily extract more
information from your geospatial data. Functionality
which allows for charts to be easily placed into maps
and reports is also included.
• Hyperspectral
Atmospheric
Correction - Now users will have the ability to
perform state-of-the-art model-based atmospheric
correction on
hyperspectral data; the Geomatica 10 atmospheric
correction model incorporates the advanced
MODTRAN4 radiative transfer model. Functionality for
generating an atmospheric water vapor map and for
spectral line curvature detection and correction are
also included!
• GeoRaster for Oracle -
Having
problems with
data storage? Geomatica 10 provides all of the tools
necessary to store, access, visualize and process
data stored in large databases, including Oracle
10g.
With fully integrated support for Oracle 10g Spatial
and GeoRaster, version 10 is your gateway into the
enterprise!

Tips and Tricks!!
Question: I am
trying to auto extract
DEM from
digital aerial imagery of urban areas without
much success. No matter what settings I select in
the DEM from stereo processing step I seem to get a
lot of failed areas. I was wondering if anyone had
any particular suggestions for best ways to
accomplish this.
Answer: Try generating your DEM from tie
points
and ground control points
in the Import & Build Processing step. Normally you
need a large amount of match points with very good
distribution to generate a digital elevation model
(DEM). Collecting these
match points can be very time consuming. To speed
up the process you might want to try running Auto
Tie Point Collection to generate many tie points. Tie
points are treated the same as match point in the
DEM interpolation therefore you can essentially
automatically generate your match points.
Do a quick check to make sure the tie points are
placed appropriately (i.e. Auto Tie Point hasn't
collected any
points on buildings that are causing the DEM
generation problems in the first place). You can then
run the DEM using the tie points and ground control
points as your match
points.
If you don't want these additional ties in the project
afterwards you can delete them or create the DEM in
another project.
If Auto Tie Point doesn't generate tie points that
yield a good
DEM, you will need to collect more tie points
manually.
Your last resort would be to take the best DEM that
you've been able to generate and do some manual
DEM editing to improve the result.
