    Tip and Trick

Did you know that Geomatica 10.1 now supports sensors onboard the ALOS Satellite Platform?

The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) was developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The sun synchronous, sub recurrent ALOS was launched by JAXA in January of 2006. ALOS is designed to provide valuable information for mapping, precise regional land coverage observation, disaster monitoring, and resource surveying. ALOS contains three sensors, commonly referred to as the "three eyes" of ALOS.

These sensors are: the Panchromatic Remote-Sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping (PRISM), the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type 2 (AVNIR-2), and the Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR).

Given below are the various ALOS formats currently supported in Geomatica V10.1:

PRISM - JAXA Format for level 1A, 1B1, and *1B2R

    PALSAR - ERSDAC level 1.5, 1.5 long version, 4.1 and 4.2 - JAXA Level 1.5

    AVNIR-2 - JAXA Format for level 1A, 1B1, and *1B2R

*Please note that while levels 1B2R are supported by Geomatica V10.1, we do not recommend using this format.

For more information on using ALOS data with Geomatica V10.1, contact your sales representative, or check out these helpful tutorials below:
