Geocollaboration
What is GeoConference?Do you need to view maps and images in real-time with colleagues who are located in remote locations? Do you wish your GIS could be part of your teleconferencing system, so that you could view maps and images during teleconferences? Are you looking for technology to add to your teleconferencing system for viewing and annotating maps and images? PCI Geomatics GeoConference® is an innovative way for your organization to share maps and images with distant colleagues and clients in real time. It is a complete geographic information-based conferencing system. Create users, add data sources, and you'll have everything you need to hold GeoConferencing sessions — right out of the box.
We offer a unique enterprise class solution built around two main components that match IT standards: the GeoConference Client application and GeoConference Server software.
Users access and participate in Internet mapping conference sessions via the GeoConference Client. The component is thin, easy to deploy and may be freely distributed with no restrictions. It’s easy to communicate and collaborate with external partners.
The GeoConference Server software component plays a central role. It acts as the bridge between the participants using the GeoConference Client. The GeoConference Server software stores participant expertise and situational findings.
Geodata privacy is fully protected. The data is never replicated. PCI supports a variety of industry-standard geodata and image and Internet map services. Why GeoConference?GeoConference provides an interactive environment and common workspace for users to share data and ideas and to exchange geospatial information in real time. Since everyone is looking at the same georeferenced map, geospatial intelligence can effectively and easily be integrated into various decision-making processes.
GeoConferencing saves an organization time and money by allowing team members to come together in a virtual setting to make fast and accurate assessments. GeoConferencing technology is a valuable tool when coordinating events such as emergency response, disaster management, and urban planning activities.
Understanding the GeoConference technologyThis unique enterprise class solution for geospatial data and images is built around two main components: the GeoConference Client application and GeoConference Server. GeoConference participants share the same map view at all times. Each participant can modify (pan/zoom/add layers) the georeferenced workspace with permission from the GeoConference Server software. The modifications are automatically transmitted in real-time and are seen by all participants. The GeoConference Server software and Client application use a push technology approach to do so. Synchronous conferencing such as WebEx, GoToMeeting and instant messaging are typical examples of push services
GeoConference ClientThe GeoConference Client lets users access and participate in Internet map conferencing sessions. All participants (users) see the same view of the georeferenced workspace at the same time. Each participant controls a pointer to identify map elements to the other users, and can annotate the map or edit other users' annotations. Further, discussions and decisions are supported through instant messaging and a journal. The GeoConference Client: - may be freely distributed to all interested parties within your organization
- is lightweight and easily deployed inside and outside your organization
- firewall-friendly (no IT configuration required)
- supports bandwidth optimization (may use a second binary communication protocol for slow connections).
GeoConference Server softwareThe GeoConference Server software is a 24/7, highly reliable system that manages all sessions and users. It also requests and fuses multi-source georeferenced information from one or more local and external data sources. The GeoConference Server software: - offers easy enterprise deployment (out-of-the-box application)
- supports data synchronization (all participants share the common georeferenced workspace at all times)
- provides authentication and access control (logon identification)
- supports standard security by using SSL encryption
- keeps track of decisions, information and knowledge: GeoConference sessions are stored and recorded on the Server and can later be opened and reviewed or reused
- centrally backups and restores GeoConference sessions.
GeoConference Server software provides GeoConference Manager—the component that lets administrators centralize the management of user accounts, workgroups, active and saved sessions, templates and datasets and to monitor GeoConference usage. Share geospatial data and imagesGeoConference connects to a variety of geoinformation (industry-standard geodata and image and Internet map services). The GeoConference system allows you to keep original data private since they never travel beyond the DataProvider computer. GeoConference - ensures viruses are unable to infect users through file copies
- shares large datasets easily without draining network and Internet bandwidth
- requires no waiting time when adding a new data source (of any size) to a GeoConference
- protects the data privacy and facilitates the sharing with other organizations (data is not replicated)
- supports various types of data sources (vector, raster grid, imagery)
- supports OGC WMS
- is compatible and complementary to other geomatics technology
- controls access to restricted geospatial datasets.
