RE: Winter image to identify hardwood forest in the south-eastern Que bec

Hi TingXian,

We have been doing quite a bit of winter image classification.  It is quite likely that your task is feasible, particularly as you would have difficultly differentiating corn from hardwood in summer imagery.  Some form of change approach may be needed to separate the harvesting from bare crops - particularly if they are side by side.    I can respond in more detail in the next week or two if you wish.

Cheers,
Dennis

Subject: Winter image to identify hardwood forest in the south-eastern Que bec

Hi the Group,

I need to know if the winter Landsat TM5 images (January 2005 ) can be use to mapping the hardwood forest and the clear cut in the snow cover (southern and eastern from Montreal to the border).  Thanks for the help,

Best regards,

Tingxian Li
