MIDEM -- DEM Tape to Database Transfer
Reads 16-bit elevation data from a USGS (United States Geological
Survey) DEM (Digital Elevation Model) format magnetic tape to a
PCIDSK image file. MIDEM reads ASCII format 1-degree (100 m.
resolution, 1:250,000 scale) and 7.5-minute (30 m. resolution,
1:24,000 scale) DEM data, but NOT "binary" (unformatted) 1-degree
or 7.5-minute DEM data. MIDEM also processes only DEM files with
four corners.
Note: MIDEM uses the DEMUNIT and UPLEFT parameters to specify the
upper left corner of the PCIDSK file. Information contained in the
PCIDSK georeferencing segment is ignored. The PCIDSK pixel size is
always assumed to be 30 by 30 metres.
