ENVI Raster (.hdr)

ENVI raster files (.hdr) are supported by GeoGateway for import, update, and export. ENVI datasets consist of two files, the header file (with the extension .hdr), and the image file (same basename as .hdr file, but no fixed extension). The user should always select the .hdr file to reference the dataset.

Import, and export support includes limited support for projections (Lat/Long, State Plane, and UTM), and limited support for datums/ellipsoids (WGS *, NAD27, and NAD83). Complex projections are imported and exported as generic METREs.

Only raster types 1, 2, and 4 (8bit unsigned, 16bit signed, and 32bit floating) are supported. Unsupported raster data types includes 32bit integer, 64 bit floating, and complex rasters.

At this time class name and colour map information is not read from, nor written to ENVI files though it is expected that this will be added in the future.

Export of ENVI files is supported. These files are exported with a file type of "NVI". The exported files can have any number of channels, and may be any PCI supported channel type. Georeferencing information will be written to the ENVI .hdr file with the limitations mentioned above. Metadata, history and georeferencing information suitable for use with GeoGateway applications will be stored in a .aux file, but this is not utilized by ENVI.
