Signature Statistics

The ``Signature Statistics'' panel is launched from the main Classify menu. It contains all the available information about the signature and class information for a single class.

The top portion of the panel includes a table indicating the class for which the information is being displayed. You may view the information of other classes by selecting another class in the table. Normally this selection is synchronized with other tables displaying the same class list. If multiple ``Signature Statistics'' panels are visible then only one will be synchronized and the rest will be independent. This allows you to view the signature information of many classes simultaneously.

Below the list is a tab control with two tabs, ``General'' and ``Matrices''. The ``General'' report lists the means and standard deviations for each channel under this class's training area mask. The ``Matrices'' report contains a dump of the Covariance, Inverse Covariance, and Triangular Inverse Covariance matrices for the signature.

This panel is also used to customize a signature, or, in other words, to use a signature that has been precomputed by another means instead of using the one automatically calculated using the training site. There are two methods of doing this. The first is to change the value of the "mean" in the general report by editing it. The second method is to press the ``Import'' button and select a signature segment that is to be read and used for the selected class.

If the mean has been modified or if a signature has been imported, the signature ceases to be calculated based on the training sites and maintains its parameters regardless of any edits to the training site. When this occurs the class list will indicate this class as having a ``Manual'' signature. A ``Manual'' signature will have a check mark in the appropriate column beside the class description.

Should you once again decide to calculate the signature based on the training site, click on the check mark and the signature will be calculated from the training site once again.

Import

The ``Signature Import'' panel is used to import signature segments that are to be used as the signature for a particular class (instead of calculating it from the training site). The training site for classes which have imported or "Manual" signatures are irrelevant but are not deleted.

Only ``Signature Segments'' which are compatible with the existing session may be imported. Those which have a different number or sequence of input channels will not be presented in the list of importable signatures.

You may double click on the list to import the signature.
