Footsteps & Futures - June 2002

Title: PCI Geomatics Presents Footsteps and Futures - June 2002

You know that DigitalGlobe? provides the highest-resolution satellite imagery product offering, the greatest collection capacity, and the largest image size commercially available. And you know PCI Geomatics to produce extremely effective orthorectification modules? BUT! Did you know PCI Geomatics offers a new high-resolution module for specifically orthorectifiying QuickBird data?

It?s true! Geomatica modules can orthorectify Quickbird and other high resolution satellite imagery! But why stop there? Do more with Geomatica: correct and perfect your high-resolution imagery, professionally map your results, share your information on the Internet, conduct your spatial analysis with ease, visualize your results in 3D, and more!

Read Earth Observation Magazine's (EOM) April 2002 article co-written by PCI Geomatics' Senior Scientist, Dr. Philip Cheng: "QuickBird - A Milestone for High-Resolution Mapping".

There is more information on Geomatica, OrthoEngine, 3D Stereo, and Feature Extraction than we can describe here. Visit our web site to find out more or talk to your PCI Geomatics sales representative today!

ASTER DEM Workshop
Using PCI Geomatics Solutions
a Success!
The AmericaView workshop on ASTER DEM generation (held at Rice University in Houston, Texas, USA) made full use of PCI Geomatics' Geomatica? and OrthoEngine? to demonstrate the many affordable advantages for using ASTER data to create DEMs from ASTER images.

"How many times in life do you have the opportunity to see exactly how an organization such as the USGS creates a digital product, much less do it yourself with the same software?" observed Alberto Prieto from the Institute of Classical Archaeology at the University of Texas. "This, for me, was the greatest selling-point of Geomatica. It's one thing to see it used by colleagues; it's another thing entirely to see it used by professionals [such as Roger Oleson], who can show you the true power of the software and, by extension, its value."

The ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) sensor, flying on the Terra EOS satellite, provides an affordable vehicle for medium scale cartography and for extracting elevation information from nadir and aft images. The simultaneous along-track stereo data eliminates the radiometric variations caused by multi-date stereo data acquisition. Image matching is also much more simplified. Given accurate GCPs, it is possible to generate good quality stereo-DEMs.

The NASA EOS Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC), located at the USGS EROS Data Center, currently use this method and the PCI OrthoEngine software to produce EOS Standard Data Product DEMs from stereo ASTER data.

AmericaView is a consortium of education, government and commercial organizations looking to expand remote sensing education through a network of numerous state consortia. You can find out more on AmericaView on their website at http://americaview.usgs.gov/.
