Geomatics Software and Satellite Imagery May Provide New Insight Into Walkerton E.coli
Outbreak PCI Geomatics has provided image analysis software and software expertise to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to assist the Walkerton Information Response Team with the Walkerton Environmental Study. This team of resource specialists from across the provincial government has been assembled to study what has been called the worst E. coli outbreak in Canadian history in the area around Walkerton in southwestern Ontario, Canada. The PCI Geomatics contribution fills "an immediate requirement for the quick processing, orthorectifying, and analysis of a large volume of image data.". "Our software will be used to quickly process and study months of detailed satellite, airphoto, and ground data collected for the Walkerton region in order to assist in the assessment of the current situation and perhaps determine how this problem evolved."
